The White House said the cyber attack was an attempt by North Korea to limit freedom of expression
The United States imposed new sanctions against North Korea in response to a cyber attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment.
President Barack Obama signed a decree on Friday that sanctions against three North Korean organizations and 10 individuals.
The White House said the move was a response to the "provocative actions, destabilizing, and enforcement" of North Korea.
US sanctions already exist on North Korea's nuclear program.
But Friday's Action think the first time, the United States moved to punish any country for cyber attacks on American society.

Korea Tangun Trading Corporation, the support of the North Korean military research.
Jang Song-Chol: the United States Department of the Treasury designated representative KOMID in Russia and one government official.
Kim Yong Chol: An official of the North Korean government, after the US representative and KOMID to Iran.
Ryu Jin Ryong Kang: KOMID officials and members of the North Korean government, working in Syria, according to the United States.
White House officials told reporters the move was in response to the Sony hack, but the objectives of sanctions have not been directly involved.
